Stay inside your tent, but don’t touch the walls. Instead, sit on something insulated from the ground, like a sleeping pad or a backpack.
Keep away from metal tent poles and other metal objects. If you’re with a group, spread out to minimize the risk of multiple injuries if lightning strikes. Wait at least 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder before leaving your shelter to ensure the storm has passed.
